So don’t take from this post that I’m a conspiracy buff, UFO tracker, or any of the above. I’m probably just starting to see things.
Last night I walked outside and saw a very strange phenomenon in the sky. It appeared to be a series of concentric, expanding rings, aproximently 20 degrees across (big). The rings were emanating from a central point. Every 15 seconds or so, a new ring would for in the center and expand, as the outer ring faded. It brought to mind ripples in a pond after a pebble is thrown in. In addition, the whole thing was moving very slowing from SSE to NNW. It lasted about five minutes before the whole thing faded.
I’ve been an astronomy buff my whole life, but couldn’t make heads or tails of this. I’d never seen or heard of anything like it. So, homework for people reading this- any ideas? Josh, Gaylen, I’m looking at you.
Background information- it was a clear night, several meteors were visible in the hour or so I was outside. The night before lightning flashes could be seen to the south, probably one of the big storms that comes in on the coast near Durbin.
Wow, cool story Oscar. So what is your first thought about what you saw? Did you hear about the ring cloud over Moscow last week?
Adrienne
Os- Are you by any chance on malaria meds?
I really can’t tell you- I’ve never heard of anything like that. Have there been any balloon children in Lesotho?
Most likely the CIA testing some awesome technology that is a thoroughly good use of taxpayer money
They will categorically deny this- the technology, not deny they make good use of taxpayer money. This will fuel further speculation they are lying on both counts…
My research skills have degenerated to simply Googling things. The result of a Google search for “lesotho rings 10/19 in the sky” point’s to Oscar’s blog as the #1 match of 4,210. Oscar, the world is depending on you to develop this story. The truth is out there.
My Google Search was “glowing orb concentric rings in the sky” and it seems you are not alone Oscar… welcome to the elite club of UFO sighters!
P.S. I am with Meghan… perhaps you should check your meds!
Yep, I think the conclusion is I’m going crazy. Looked all over the internet for something like this, didn’t find a thing.
Oscar,
Maybe you are not going crazy. I shared your blog with my friend and this is what she sent to me (I have her permission to post it):
“Kewl! I was just telling someone about a UFO I saw with my friend, Jen last year. Not a flying saucer, but an unidentified light in the sky. It was falling towards earth, over the ocean, but moving reeeeeealllly sloooooowly. I thought, “space shuttle landing?” but there was nothing about it in the news. I still don’t know what it was. I wish I remembered exactly when it happened! I think it was around this time last year, though.”
Oscar, What was it you saw? Was it a light, or was it like a cloud? Just curious.
Adrienne
I think we can safely rule out astronomical phenomena based on the direction of movement. When I have more time (maybe this weekend), I’ll see if I can find anything. Do you remember the wind direction that night?
Wind was pretty calm that night, so I can’t remember a specific direction. Prevailing winds are from the NW, so 90% of the time that’s what it would be.
Ade- it definitely did not look like a cloud. The thing in the middle looked like a star or planet, oscillating in brightness. Tiny, though.
EDIT- I’m a dumbass, had the direction it was moving reversed. Changed in the original post.
