I realized today that this is actually one of the most viewed posts on this blog, and was a two sentence description I wrote last April, describing my imminent graduation from College.
So, with no further ado:
Oscar Sinclair, Peace Corps Extrodinare.
My official job here is as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Community Health and Economic Development Program (CHED), attached as a technical advisor to CRS’s Mountain Orphans and Vulnerable Children (MOVE) Project in the village of Bobete, in the Thaba-Tseka district of Lesotho.
All that is a big mouthfull for what, day to day, is a fairly simple job. The MOVE project is Catholic Relief Services’ big project in Lesotho right now, working on everything from uniform distribution to garden building to community empowerment. I work primarily with the microfinancing aspect of the project, as well as the monitoring and evaluation side of NGO work. Yes, apparently there is a reason statistics analysis is a manditory part of a political science major.
I arrived in Lesotho in June of 2008, and after two months in training moved to my site in Bobete. Bobete is a very small village is one of the most rural parts of Lesotho. Access to Bobete is mostly through flight, a group called Mission Aviation Fellowship flies little four seat Cessnas in a few times a day.
Overall it’s good work, and I’m happy to be here. I’ll try to update this more when I have some time, but for now it’s better than it’s been.
